We develop hydrogels to increase water and fertilizer use efficiency in agricultural and ornamental plant applications.
The hydrogels are consolidated as a polymeric mixture in the form of spheres made mainly of superabsorbent materials in order to keep the soil moist for a longer period of time, reducing the amount of irrigation water needed.
Each sphere is made up of several layers of the polymeric material which encapsulates different types of fertilizers that are dosed according to the growth stage of the plant.
The objective is to control the water absorption and desorption cycles, which contributes to the controlled diffusion of the fertilizer in the outermost layer.
